Author: Grantley Bernard
From: Herald Sun
Date: August 27th 2008
SOUTHERN Cross has recruited commentator Les Murray and former tennis champion Paul McNamee in its bid for Melbourne's second A-League licence.
The face of SBS football, Murray presented the bid to Football Federation Australia on Monday.
He has been retained by the group as an adviser.
A former chief executive of the Australian Open, McNamee will advise on commercial matters.
"A bit further down the track, we'll be happy to release more information about the other people behind the bid, but we're delighted to have Les and Paul involved," spokesman Jim Mellas said yesterday.
The group, backed by Victorian Premier League club South Melbourne, took two hours to detail its five-year business plan. It is understood rival Melbourne Heart has already made its presentation. A decision will not be made until at least October.
