Melbourne Heart chases Ronaldo coup

MELBOURNE Heart is in talks to sign Brazilian striker Ronaldo.

The 33-year-old would be the A-League's biggest name if Heart pulls off the recruiting coup.

Club chief executive Scott Munn on Friday night confirmed Heart was trying to lure the dual World Cup winner to Melbourne.

"We're in the embryonic stages at the moment," Munn said.

"We're aware that his contract is nearing the end and we have had some contact and conversations with relation to Ronaldo and a possible stint with us.

"Ultimately the decision will rest with Ronaldo, our coach John van't Schip and the football department."

Ronaldo is expected to command a salary of about $100,000 a game.

Former Brazil national team media director Ricardo Setyon said the World Cup's all-time leading goalscorer would consider an offer to play in Australia.

"Of course, he is nearing the end of his career but he is still scoring marvellous goals in Brazil," Setyon said from Sao Paolo, where Ronaldo plays for Corinthians in Brazil's Serie A.

Ronaldo played for European giants Barcelona, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and AC Milan.
